Kubota Z482, D722, D902, D1105, V2607: The Engine Codes Across the Rippa Range
What the letter and number in a Kubota engine code mean, which Rippa model carries which engine, and why it matters for parts, fuel and resale.
Kubota's industrial engine codes are a small language. Once you can read them, the Rippa range makes more sense.
Reading the code
- Letter: cylinder count and series. Z two cylinders, D three, V four.
- Number: displacement in tens of cubic centimetres. A D902 is 0.9 litres; a V2607 is 2.6 litres.
- More displacement means more torque at low revs, which is what you feel when the bucket bites.

Confirm the engine on the product page and the engine plate for the machine you buy; specifications vary between batches.
Why it matters
Parts. These engines are in Kubota's own compact machines and in dozens of other brands. Filters, belts, injectors, gaskets and water pumps are stocked by engine dealers in every regional centre in Australia.
Servicing. Small Kubotas want an oil change at the first 50 hours, then every 250, with hydraulic filters at 500 and hydraulic oil at around 1,000. Any diesel mechanic knows them.
Fuel. All diesel models run standard automotive diesel. Consumption scales with power: roughly 1 to 2 litres an hour for the 1 to 1.5 tonne machines, 2 to 3 for the 2 tonne class, 4 to 7 for the R57 PRO.
Resale. Buyers search for "Kubota engine" and pay for it. Keep the service record.
The exceptions
The RS03 and RD06 run Briggs & Stratton petrol engines: lighter and cheaper at that size, and happy on unleaded, with stabiliser or a dry carburettor for storage. The R82 PRO is specified with Yanmar or Changchai diesels; ask which is fitted to the unit in stock.
